We are saddened to announce the passing of our good friend and composer, Seymour. We were working with him to produce an evening of performances for you in September, and we plan to honor those plans and him with a 12 performance run, in celebration of his life.

Opera in a Suitcase.

Founded by Richard Flusser in 1950, the After Dinner Opera has produced hundreds of American chamber operas, many of them historic debuts: in 1956 the ADO became the first American company to take American operas to Europe.

The ADO specializes in instant operatic fun, in works that are quaintly mythological, pseudo-folkish, cheerfully sexy. For all its friskiness, however, the ADO has serious musical ambitions: to provide a place for composers showcase their art.

The ADO has produced the works of over seventy-seven composers, including Seymour Barab, Leonard Bernstein, Mark Blitzstein, Georges Bizet, Duke Ellington, Lee Hoiby, Gian-Carlo Menotti and Ned Rorem.
